This 2008 book is by Bob Brier and Jean-Pierre Houdin who with the help of his father have devised an excellent theory about internal ramps used to build the great pyramid. Their supporters include fortunately mummy doctor Bob Brier who beautifully explains the theory of an internal ramp.
The book is an easy 224 page read with lots of pictures and graphics to explain the theory in which I particularly liked the creation and uses of the grand gallery in the erecting of the kings burial chamber. I must say I could not help but feel odd that a man known for his work on mummies would be writing about pyramids and computer graphics yet it was working for me.
Stages of building the pyramid including the pyramids internal architecture is well presented making much of the internal rooms make sense architecturally. Though more than 4500 years old the authors convincingly read the intentions of the pyramids architect Hemiunu making the theory on its building a real possibility.
The appendix's at the end of the book were interesting additions to the subject which the carving of king Khufu's sarcophagus was a favorite for me and really puts the whole project into scale. No doubt this story will have legs for years to come hopefully someday real proof will prove whether the theory was right or not but for now this book is an excellent read on the building of the great pyramid.

Hey Tim,
I wouldn’t be too surprised at Dr. Brier getting involved in Jean-Pierre Houdin’s cause. I know that “Mr. Mummy” taught a semester at University of Louisville on “Ancient Egyptian Architecture” back in 2004. I am a Louisvillian myself, but was occupied elsewhere and totally missed the opportunity to take a class from him. Talk about missing the bus…
From what I understand, his next book is about Egyptian architecture as well. It seems that this has been a side interest that is moving more to the forefront. We have an annual event here called the Idea Festival that is basically a celebration of innovation that draws scientists from every field and from all over the world. Since Dr. Brier already has some local connections here, I would love to get him and Jean-Pierre to do a presentation. The Idea Fest is a perfect venue for their work, I just have to figure out a way to bribe all the related parties. Some good Kentucky Bourbon, maybe?
